"A town without a Band is not a complete entity" N.S.Tankersley. Mayor, Masterton, 1973

Masterton District Band is proud to have been continuously serving the community since 1873. Our name may have changed from time to time, mostly to adapt to local government name changes, but the Band has been there without a break.

We are the de facto Band for the whole Wairarapa, performing anywhere from Mauriceville in the north to Featherston in the south. Christmas parades, Anzac Day parades, civic functions and community events such as the annual Teddy Bears' Picnic and the Relay for Life.

We are also an active "contesting" Band, and compete annually in the Wellington District Brass Band Association (WDBBA) Contest. At Napier in 2009 we were the D grade runners up in the National Contest, and we became the champion D grade marching Band.

We now have a fantastic new Musical Director, Squadron Leader Owen Clarke, who is also Musical Director of the Central Band Of  The Royal New Zealand Air Force.

We practice every Monday evening between 7pm and 9pm at our wonderful Bandroom in Park Avenue, Masterton.
